Bukoba Main Market
Bukoba Main Market (map) is located in downtown (town centre) sandwiched
between Jamhuri Road, Sokoine Road, Biashara Street and Arusha Street. Bukoba
Market is a place to find all types of food from grains, vegetables, fruits,
poultry, beef, all varieties of bananas, and fish. Packaged canned and other
processed foods are available in kiosks surrounding Bukoba Main Market, and
supermarkets in downtown just outside the main market. Bukoba Main Market
closes at 6:00 pm.
Rwamishenye Market
Rwamishenye Market (map) is located along Uganda Road just after the
traffic circle (roundabout) which is the intersection of three roads leading: to
town centre, Muleba and Mwanza, and Karagwe and Uganda. From town centre, head
north passing through the steep Nyangoye Hills towards Uganda. The market is a
large and busy business centre on either sides of Uganda Road. It provides all
the food and non-food supplies you can find in the main Market and town centre
shops. This market is good for late shoppers and likely bargain hunters, and
closes at 11:00 pm.
Fresh Fish
Fresh fish, especially tilapia is sold along the shore of Lake
Victoria to East of the harbor beside Kiroyera Tours beach camp and in Nyamukazi
(also on the lake shore).
General Shopping
Non-food shopping can be made from many retail
shops located in the downtown core, which is a large area sandwiched between
Uganda Road to the west, Arusha Street to the east, Barongo Road to the south
and the upcountry bus stand to the north. All shops are easily accessible from
Jamhuri Road which runs north-south in the middle of the downtown core.
